WPA Artwork Found in California Valued at $1.08 Million

For several years now, the General Services Administration (GSA) Office of Inspector General has been working with the GSA Fine Arts Program to recover lost and stolen Works Progress Administration (WPA) artwork. Recently, we located 12 lost pieces of artwork by WPA artist Evelyn McCormick in the City of Monterey, California. The pieces, which will remain in the City of Monterey on loan from GSA, include: Casa Boronda, Colton Hall, Custom House, El Cuertel, First Theatre - Monterey, House of Four Winds, Sherman-Halleck Adobe, St. Catherine’s Academy, Old Whaling Station - Monterey, Alvarado House, Pacific House, and Stevenson House. The GSA Fine Arts Program valued the 12 paintings collectively at $1,080,000.
