2024 Pathways Summer Legal Internship Program

The U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) Office of Inspector General (OIG) is seeking highly qualified and motivated students to hire into our Summer Pathways Intern Program, in our Office of Counsel, located in Washington, D.C. GSA OIG was established as one of the original 12 OIGs created by the Inspector General Act of 1978. The GSA OIG’s mission is to detect and deter waste, fraud, and abuse and to identify and recommend ways that the agency can better use taxpayer money. 

The OIG provides oversight through auditing, inspections, and investigations of GSA's extensive procurement, real property, and related programs and operations. Applicants are encouraged to review the work and accomplishments of the GSA OIG on our website, https://www.gsaig.gov/.

Interns will perform duties and gain knowledge in areas specific to the OIG’s Office of Counsel, which include: government contracting and procurement; fiscal law; civil and criminal investigations; False Claims Act; employment law; ethics; administrative subpoenas; and Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) matters. Typical duties may include any of the following:

  • Performs research using pertinent sources such as Westlaw.
  • Reviews subpoenas for legal compliance.
  • Briefs senior officials orally and in writing on projects assigned.
  • Tracks and inputs legal documents using a case management system.
  • Writes or assists in drafting legal memoranda.

 

Requirements

  • Applicants must be enrolled in an American Bar Association (ABA) accredited law school.
  • Applicants must have a GPA of at least 3.0 (or equivalent).
  • Applicants must have completed at least one year of law school by the intern program start date.
  • US Citizenship or National (Residents of American Samoa and Swains Island).

Internship Duration and Hours

OIG interns must work a full-time schedule for a period of at least 8 weeks but no more than 10 weeks. This block of time must take place between May 2024 through September 2024.
