Scam Alert: Beware of Scammers That Are Spoofing Real Government Numbers

The General Services Administration (GSA) Office of Inspector General (OIG) is aware that scammers may have recently spoofed GSA OIG phone numbers, making it appear that calls are coming from a government agency. These spoofed calls may show up on your caller ID as a real agency number. However, the calls are not legitimate.

Scammers may try to pressure individuals into providing personal information, such as Social Security numbers or banking details, or to demand immediate payment by phone. GSA OIG and other U.S. government agencies will never call to threaten arrest, suspend benefits, or demand payment in any form.

If you receive a suspicious call:
•    Hang up immediately.
•    Do not provide personal or financial information.
•    Report GSA OIG impersonation scams to https://www.gsaig.gov/hotline or the Federal Trade Commission at https://reportfraud.ftc.gov/.

If you have identified or been victimized by a scam caller claiming to be from another agency, report it to the agency’s Office of Inspector General. Go to https://www.ignet.gov/content/inspectors-general-directory for a list of agency Offices of Inspectors General and their hotlines. You can also report it to the Federal Trade Commission at https://reportfraud.ftc.gov/

If you have information about fraud, waste, abuse, mismanagement, or other crimes or violations of federal laws, rules, and regulations relating to GSA programs and operations, including contracts, please report it to the OIG Hotline. You can submit your complaint at https://www.gsaig.gov/hotline
