GSA Recovers 58 More Pieces of New Deal Era Artwork Valued at $71,000

The GSA Office of Inspector General recovered 58 pieces of New Deal Era artwork in Chico, CA recently.

The 58 pieces of artwork were discovered by a private citizen in his deceased mother's estate. His mother had been a high school teacher in New York, NY, where the artwork was once located. He explained that his mother had secured the New Deal Era artwork to safeguard it from other high school employees, whom his mother feared would keep the art for private gain. The citizen had recently learned about GSA’s program to recover New Deal Era artwork, so he contacted the OIG to ensure that the artwork would go to the right place.

In June, the GSA Fine Arts Office confirmed the 58 recovered artwork pieces as New Deal Era, and estimated their collective value at $71,000.
